PROOFS AND PROPHECIES OF JESUS CHRIST
While there are thousands of sources, here are some of our favorite ways God has revealed Himself to humankind.
PROOFS & Prophecies
The Big Bang
The Big Bang Theory proposes that the universe had a specific and particular beginning. Something- especially complex and fine tuned life can not come out of nothing. Every creation logically has to have a Creator.
Historical accuracy of the Bible
Using the same criteria by which we judge other historical works, not only is the Bible reliable, it is more reliable than any other comparable writings. Read more in the links Old Testament Accuracy
“… The resurrection of Jesus Christ is so overwhelming that it compels acceptance by proof which leaves absolutely no room for doubt.” - Sir Lionel Luckhoo New Testament Accuracy and Proof of Resurrection
Over 500 people have witnessed the resurrected Christ at one time
1 Corinthians 15:3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. 5 He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. 6 After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7 Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles.
The change of heart and martyrdom of the apostles
During the crucifixion, the gospels tell us that all but one of Jesus’ disciples abandon him out of fear. It is even written that Peter denies knowing him three times. After the resurrection, all of the 11 remaining apostles were compelled to share the news that He has risen- under government persecution and public hatred. All of the apostles were imprisoned and tortured; all but one resulting in a horrifying death. While people may die for what they believe to be true- NO one would suffer like this for a known lie. This goes against every human instinct.
Pentecost
Jews from around the known world were all gathered in Jerusalem for Shavuot, the festival of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the Christ followers. Xenoglossia, that is, known foreign languages took over their speech and they had the ability to preach the Gospel to all who were there that day, fluently in their varied native languages. This event was so influential that over 3,000 people believed the preaching of Peter and were baptised that day.
There are over 300 fulfilled prophecies of the Messiah’s coming
From the Davidic lineage, virgin birth, being born in Bethlehem to being pierced and killed to atone for our sins here is a list of Prophecies fulfilled by Jesus
What are the odds of fulfillment? Professor Stoner outlines the mathematical probability of one person in the first century fulfilling just eight of the most clear and straightforward Messianic prophecies. We find that the chance that any man might have lived down to the present time and fulfilled all eight prophecies is 1 in 10 to the 17th power (1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000).
At the time of Jesus, the Jews were looking in anticipation for a reigning messiah to rescue them from their Roman oppressors- which is why they rejected him. They even conceptualised there may be two different messiah’s because of the great discrepancies in prophecies. To be rejected by His people, this too was a fulfilment of ancient prophecy. We see in the New Testament a fuller picture of God’s plan which has always been: 1 Messiah, 2 comings
The Shroud of Turin
This fascinating ancient relic continues to baffle scientists today. Believed to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ, the photographic negative image produced on the cloth absolutely defies any scientific explanation. The image is a crucified man that was whipped and tortured, was pierced in his side (as mentioned in the gospels) with blood stains hinting to the crown of thorns.
The shroud has been recently dated to the time of Jesus and from the region of Judea. Another artifact called The Sudarium of Oviedo is a perfect match to the Shroud and is believed to be the head cloth of Jesus.
